Jesus, Fix It Before I Do Something Unholy: When Christian Women Are Afraid to Fail

Sis, You’re Not Failing—You’re Just in Your “Jesus, Please Take the Wheel” Era.
Let me say this right up front: just because you feel like you’re failing doesn’t mean you
are. You might just be in the middle of your “Lord, I don’t know what You’re doing, but
I’m trusting You (kinda)” season.

And that’s okay.

Very Present Help Counseling, founded by Ebony Johnson, specializes in providing heartfelt and professional virtual Christian counseling. Based in the Nashville, TN, area. Our services extend remotely to anywhere in Florida and Tennessee. Schedule your virtual Christian counseling session today.

We’ve all been there—laying in bed, overthinking everything, wondering if God
accidentally picked the wrong girl for the job. Newsflash: He didn’t. But also… I get it.
Because this walk of faith? It’s not for the faint of heart. It’s for the women who can pray
in tongues at noon and still want to cuss at 3:15.

1. Fear of Failure Hits Different When You’re Trying to Be Holy AND Human

Let’s be real: when you’re a Christian woman trying to “walk in purpose,” every decision
feels like it’s either going to change your life… or ruin it.

You’re like:
•“Is this a faith move or a flop?”
•“Did God say that, or was that just me on too much caffeine and Tasha Cobbs?”
•“Should I fast… or just go to bed?”
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
– 2 Timothy 1:7

So if you’ve been spiraling in anxiety while trying to obey God—girl, you are not broken.
You are becoming.

2. God Ain’t Out Here Looking for Perfection—He’s Looking for Progress

Listen. God is not waiting on you to get your life perfectly together before He can use
you. You think He’s up there like,
“Let Me just wait until she figures out her 5-year plan and stops crying every other
Tuesday.”

No ma’am. If God wanted perfect, He would’ve skipped right past Moses (who
stuttered), Esther (who was scared), and Peter (who stayed catching L’s).

“Well done, good and FAITHFUL servant.”
– Matthew 25:23

He said faithful, not flawless. So even if you’re out here obeying God with shaky knees
and a tired soul—He sees that. He honors that. And He’s working with it.

3. Failure Doesn’t Cancel Your Calling—It Just Makes the Testimony Spicier

Failure Doesn’t Cancel Your Calling—It Just Makes the Testimony Spicier.
Some of us think if we mess up once, God’s just gonna snatch the calling back like,
“Welp. She fumbled. Get the next one.”

Absolutely not.

Your mistakes don’t surprise God. He factored them in before you were even born. Your
failed attempt, your nervous breakdown, your season of doubt—that’s all part of the
glow-up, holy edition.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
– 2 Corinthians 12:9

That means God is out here building miracles with your mess. And if that ain’t good
news, I don’t know what is.

4. Sis, You Can Cry and Still Be Called

Let’s normalize ugly crying in prayer and still getting up like, “Okay, Lord. I’m gon’ trust
You again… but barely.”
You don’t have to have it all together to be anointed. You don’t have to feel strong to be
chosen. You don’t have to look holy to be walking in purpose.
Sometimes the most powerful move is simply saying,
“God, I’m tired… but I’m still here.”
That’s faith, sis. That’s obedience. That’s Black woman grace with Holy Spirit fire.

A Prayer for the Woman Who’s Trying Not to Lose It Today
Lord, I’m here. Barely, but I’m here. I feel like I’m failing, but I know You’ve never failed
me. Remind me who I am when I forget. Speak louder than my fear. Help me to stop
treating perfection like salvation. I trust You with this shaky yes. And Lord… if You could
also throw in a nap and a miracle, I wouldn’t be mad. Amen.

Final Word: You’re Not Too Broken, Too Late, or Too Much—You’re Just in
Process

Look. You’re not the first woman who wanted to quit, and you won’t be the last. But your
calling is not up for debate just because your confidence took a hit. You are still chosen.
Still equipped. Still called.

So dust off the doubt, rebuke the spirit of “I can’t,” and walk in your assignment—even if
your wig is slipping and your mascara’s running.

God’s got you.
Your grandma’s prayers are still covering you.
And girl, I’m rooting for you too.
